This book is both haunting and hopeful, as it dives deeply into several cold cases. Some solved, some unsolved we got a glimpse of the complexity of police work that goes into a cold case. Hopeful because of development dna testing that has not been available for long. Excellent narrator brought the information to life.

The book moves between narrative storytelling, explanations of forensic investigation, and the author’s personal commentary.

The audiobook narration was effective, with the narrator adjusting tone and affect as the author transitioned between styles.

This story was incredibly sad, but what stayed with me the most was the tenderness in the narration. There is such a quiet grace and deep respect in the way each girl’s story is told—it feels less like a retelling and more like a tribute.

You can sense the care in every word, as if their voices are being gently carried forward so they are never forgotten. It’s not an easy listen, but it is a meaningful and beautiful one. I’m so grateful these girls were honored in such a compassionate way.
