The second novel in the New York Times bestselling Broken Road series from Richard Paul Evans about a man on an inspirational pilgrimage across Route 66 to find his way back to himself.

Chicago celebrity and successful pitchman Charles James is supposed to be dead. Everyone believes he was killed in a fiery plane crash. But thanks to a remarkable twist of fate, he’s very much alive and ready for a second chance at life—and love. Narrowly escaping death has brought Charles some clarity: the money, the fame, the fast cars—none of it was making him happy. The last time he was happy—truly happy—was when he was married to his ex-wife Monica, before their connection was destroyed by his ambition and greed.

Charles decides to embark on an epic quest: He will walk the entire length of Route 66, from Chicago to California, where he hopes to convince Monica to give him another shot. Along the way, Charles is immersed in the deep and rich history of one of America’s most iconic highways. But the greater journey he finds is the one he takes in his heart as he meets people along the road who will change his perspective on the world. But will his transformation be enough to earn redemption?

Really enjoyed both The Broken Road and The Forgotten Road. Now I’m waiting for the next book to continue on Charles walk. So many life lessons that we can all relate to in some way in Charles life!

It ended too soon!

Ok, so this likely couldn't have happened in real life, but it's still believable and lots of fun. Well worth the read!

Great story!

I love these two books on the Forgotten Road, I hope that there is another book coming to finish out Charles journey to find his Monica and Son and to tell us if Charles is now close to God as he was in his childhood. I will be waiting to hear if another series is coming soon. I love Richard and have all his books in my library.
Your faithful reader and fan.

I feel I need to finish reading the 3rd book before really giving a review. I’m enjoying this series.

We all have our “demons”, isn’t that what they say? Well, this series sure makes you stop and think about your demons and whether or not you’ve handled them appropriately or if there’s room for improvement. Yet it does this all through telling a story of one man who is living with and eventually confronting his own demons, so the reader doesn’t feel out on the spot nor like the lessons in this series are “pointed”. Rather by hearing the story of Charles, through his own thoughts, it passively causes the reader to ponder their own relationship with their demons. I find it gratifying, refreshing and hope-inducing.

Aside from that “deep” aspect, I just enjoy the story line of one man making out of an abusive relationship, making it big in this world, but then coming to realize that either end of the spectrum the pendulum might swing to is not really the “happy medium”. I think in the third book I might (hopefully) find the protagonist finding that happy middle and learning to finally free himself from those demons.... and thereby giving the reader hope to do the same one day. What is it Shakespeare said? “Above all else to thine own self be true.” Good advise.

Another Great Book by Evans
