“A pleasure from finish to start.” —Anthony Horowitz

“Fresh and exciting, with both humor and thrills, Griffiths’ first book in her new series knocks it out of the park!” —Shari Lapena

Some murders can’t be solved in just one lifetime.

Ali Dawson and her cold case team investigate crimes so old, they're frozen—or so their inside joke goes. Nobody knows that her team has a secret: they can travel back in time to look for evidence.

The latest assignment sees Ali venture back farther than they have dared before: to 1850s London to clear the name of Cain Templeton, an eccentric patron of the arts. Rumor has it that Cain is part of a sinister group called The Collectors. Ali arrives in the Victorian era to another dead woman at her feet and far too many unanswered questions.

As the clock counts down, Ali becomes more entangled in the mystery, yet danger lurks around every corner. She soon finds herself trapped, unable to make her way back to her beloved son, Finn, who is battling his own accusations in the present day.

Could the two cases be connected? In a race through and against time, Ali must find out before it’s too late.

I’d never heard of this author before, but the description and reviews convinced me to give it a try—and I’m glad I did.

This is a genuinely fun listen. There’s enough mystery and momentum to keep you engaged, but it’s light enough that it doesn’t completely take over your brain. It’s not the kind of story that lingers in your thoughts, haunts your brain (Ghost Eaters looking at you) for days, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want.

Did I love it? Well, love is a funny thing isn’t it.. I definitely liked it. And sometimes that’s enough.

It’s a great “in-between” book—perfect for driving, walking, or just needing something entertaining without getting emotionally wrecked. I’ll be listening to the sequel.

Great “in-between” books book!

Wasn't sure if I would like this one because I love Ellie's Ruth and Harbinder series but can't with her Magician ones. Enjoyed ever bit of this one. Can't wait for more.

Loved!!!!

Loved this story!!! Plot was great, I love a good mystery with a twist. I felt the ending was a bit rushed but it definitely left me wanting more. This was a great listen and a refreshing story overall, I was in a slump and this pulled me out. Thank you to both the author and narrator.

So refreshing!!!

Alison is a fully developed wise non-traditional detective. She is courageous and loyal to her family and co-workers. Her sleuthing mysteries unfold both in the present and the 19th century. Time travel, intrigue and friendship richly add to the bending twists of the story.
