Everyone thinks she's paranoid. What if she's the only one seeing clearly?

Vivienne Duval's smart home is watching her. Her medication erases hours of memory. Her husband insists she's imagining things. And when her best friend Jolie dies investigating Vivienne's therapist, the woman who's supposed to help her starts looking like the woman destroying her.

Dr. Simone Voss has treated Vivienne for dissociative disorder for three years. She's professional. Compassionate. Irreplaceable.

She's also asking questions about the childhood Vivienne can't remember—questions no therapist should know to ask. The years before age six that vanished without explanation. The years that might prove her memories aren't symptoms—they're warnings.

In New Orleans, the only thing more dangerous than remembering is trying to forget.

A psychological thriller about gaslighting, surveillance, and the dangerous cost of remembering what someone wanted you to forget. For fans of The Silent Patient and Gone Girl.

I’m a bit confused reading a previous review saying that something may have gotten lost in translation because I’m unclear if this book was originally written in a different language. If that is the case, that would explain some things because the sentence structure was odd and offputting at times. When I started the audiobook, I think it said something to the effect of it’s being narrated by AI, which also didn’t help things. You really lost the human inflection in the voice. The unfortunate part is the story was very interesting. Last thing, the brother/husband thing was really weird to me.

Great story but not so great narration

I hated the entire narration. I liked the story, but I had to work to fill in missing words. I had to make sense of mispronounced words. And absolutely no emotion. There were times when a character was crying, but the AI voice just rambled on with zero emotion. 🙄

The hideous AI voice missing words and mispronounced words.

Very enjoyable. I feel a few words were lost in translation but minor . What a great take on people banning together to take out the villain .

This was a wild ride
