Bookshop owner Penelope Thornton-McClure and her gumshoe ghost team up to solve the stunning mystery at the heart of a so-called "madwoman's" self-portrait in this all-new installment from New York Times best-selling author Cleo Coyle.

While gathering a collection of vintage book cover paintings for a special event in her quaint Rhode Island bookshop, Penelope discovers a spooky portrait of a beautiful woman, one who supposedly went mad, according to town gossip. Seymour, the local mailman, falls in love with the haunting image and buys the picture, refusing to part with it, even as fatal accidents befall those around it. Is the canvas cursed? Or is something more sinister at work?

For answers, Pen turns to an otherworldly source: Jack Shepard, PI. Back in the 1940s, Jack cracked a case of a killer cover artist, and (to Pen's relief) his spirit is willing to help her solve this mystery, even if he and his license did expire decades ago.

Maybe I am too used to the narrator of the series first books but I did not like the accents given to some of the characters. The book itself was wonderful as have been all of the previous books.
Highly recommend.

I like this series.

I don’t understand why they change the reader of this book she didn’t do a good job like the reader in all the other books..

Although Traci Odom’s voice was lovely and would have been fine for Pen, the lack of a male voice for Jack really ruined the audio version of this book. The storyline was very good, but I also missed the budding romance between Pen & Jack in her dreams.

Good storyline

Another great mystery from Cleo Coyle! And while the narrator was good, I didn't like the switch. After 6 books with the former narrators, it's hard to rally behind different voices. The change that irked me the most was Jack Sheppard's portrayal. I hope the previous narrators come back for book 8.

Bring back previous narrators

Enjoyed the book but not the narrator. You should have keep the previous narrators. This book they all sounded too much alike. I hope that you will go back to the previous narrators in future books, it makes it more interesting.
