She thought her neighbors had the perfect life. But when murder rocks the suburbs, she becomes the perfect suspect....

Amber is barely holding it together. In the midst of a messy divorce, sometimes the only thing that gets her out of bed is spying on her handsome neighbor Caleb. She fantasizes about trading places with Caleb’s spouse and makes it no secret that she’d kill for that kind of life. Her words come back to haunt her when Caleb’s wife is murdered and Amber becomes a top suspect....

To catch the real killer and clear her name, Amber must peel back the hidden layers of a neighborhood she thought she knew. The clues lead her to shocking revelations about Caleb’s far-from-perfect marriage and her own failed relationship. As she digs deeper, Amber is certain of one thing: There’s no end to what people will do to keep their secrets behind closed doors....

The Girl in the Window is a spine-tingling psychological suspense novel. If you like unsettling suburban mysteries, complex characters, and jaw-dropping twists, then you’ll love Renée Pawlish’s mind-bending story.

I received this audiobook for free in exchange for an honest review.

In keeping with honesty, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this story. I was previously unfamiliar with both the author and narrator. As it turns out, I am impressed by both.

Renee Pawlish crafted a mystery that was unveiled slowly, maintaining an edge of danger throughout. There were numerous times Amber, the protagonist, was in perilous situations; some were of her own doing, while others were happenstance. Amber also underwent significant growth, emerging from the despair of her failing marriage to show temerity and determination.
An element of this story that was thankfully omitted is the dreaded love triangle. All of the confusion and emotional waffling was limited to the plight of spousal rejection and pending divorce. Amber was pitiable, and for a time pitiful, but in ways I could sympathize with.
Jennifer Blom did a fantastic job narrating this story. Admittedly, I was initially a bit dismayed by the drab tone she began the book with, but it became evident after only a few minutes that she had interpreted and delivered the tone perfectly. Kudos to her! Additionally, her delivery of dialogue was fluid and natural. Nothing was ever forced, and she implemented subtle mannerisms, such as chuckles and conversational sounds, that truly crafted the illusion of being there and witnessing the characters. It was lovely to experience. Her male voices, sometimes a struggle for female narrators to deliver credibly, were believable. She never overreached to deepen her voice, but used subtle drops that conveyed the different gender.

In all, hearing this story was a pleasant, engaging experience, as both the story and its delivery were unexpectedly enjoyable.

Enjoyable Mystery w/ Strong Narration

I listened and kept waiting for what I thought would happen since I watched the movie 🎬. I'm so glad the book was different and the story line was not who I expected at all! LOVED IT!

This is a tense, terse tale of a gradually growing horror. The horror of discovering a betrayal of love that has gone on for much longer than the heroine has suspected, destroying not only her but everyone else it touches. Pawlish pulls the emotional strings so tight that they almost, but not quite, snap. But the story never passes into the maudlin. The ending is truly satisfying in a way that is unexpected and leaves me wanting revenge. That said, the true hero of this audiobook is the narrator. Jennifer Blom plays the woman scorned, the woman used and abused and craving catharsis, with such quiet power and dignity that I found myself listening to the entire audiobook in only two sessions. Her performance adds to this story, which can't be said of all audiobooks. Her character voices (even male voices) are believable and true. Great, great performance. 5 stars.

Powerful story, but the real hero is the narrator
