Two gone. One whose past could kill her.

When the body of Lola Evans is found in a local park on a cold winter's morning, Detective Alex King and her new recruit Chloe Lane are called in to lead the hunt for the killer.

Days later, a second girl goes missing. It seems the two shared a troubled history, and were members of the same support group. Who is the monster preying on these vulnerable girls?

As the detectives start to piece together the clues, Chloe realizes that she too is in danger - as she uncovers secrets about her own brother's death, which someone will kill to keep hidden.

Alex and Chloe are soon fighting for their lives, and in a race against time to reach the next victim, before it's too late.

Chilling and totally compelling with an utterly surprising twist, The Girls in the Water is perfect for fans of Robert Bryndza, Sarah Hilary, and Patricia Gibney.

I really enjoyed the story and also the narration, I listen to my books whilst walking outdoors, I could hardly wait until my next day walk to continue this book.

ENJOYABLE SUSPENSE

I read a lot of this genre. I read about police detectives all over Europe - Ireland, England, Scotland, Italy, France, Germany, Denmark, Sweden - but this is my first Welsh police story. And I was not disappointed. Not bad for the first in a series.

We have a few storylines yet to play out. Of course that can happen with a series of books. Alex and Chloe are interesting characters with very interesting backstories. I admit I hadn’t figured out the ending so it was quite a surprise. Well done, Victoria Jenkins. And a shoutout for a great narration to Katie Villa.

Good first in the series book

The first half of this book was not much of a murder mystery. I would define it a character study. Mostly all about the personal relationships and problems in the lives of all the troubled characters. I kept thinking "when does the mystery start?" Finally about 3/4 into the book everything started to move forward and got a bit more exciting. All of the mysteries and questions get answered in the end and it turned out a bit surprising. my advise is skim the first 3/4.

First half boring, 2nd better

This was a pretty good book and also enjoyed the audio. I didn't see who killed Lucas...surprised. The ending was good, but I felt like I missed something. Probably going to be a book 2. I would recommend this book and the audio.
