The Gods Only Know is an arranged marriage, childhood-friends-to-lovers, second-chance fantasy romance novel. It is the second book in the Tempt the Gods series and can be enjoyed as a standalone, but it is recommended to listen to the recap at the beginning of the book.

Poseidon and Athena. Finally friends.

When the Greek and Roman gods are forced to merge into one pantheon, the unthinkable happens. House Poseidon and House Athena agree to set aside their centuries-long feud in the interest of self-preservation, betrothing their heirs. For close to twenty years, Lukas Poseidon and Daphne Athena knew they were destined to get married, somehow finding a friendship in the face of it all.

Until a year ago, when Daphne disappears without explanation. Or so Lukas thinks. As the threat against the gods escalates, Daphne and Lukas are forced to work together to keep their court happy and themselves alive. While war looms, the tension will either remind them why their families hated each other for years or make them closer than ever before.

Lukas Poseidon and Daphne Athena make a very cute couple—even if they both would tense their shoulders if you said that to their faces.

The life long best friends turned betrothed are divided by Daphne when she runs away unexpectedly, months before their wedding. The tension between the two is tangible when Daphne is forced back to court, and the pair quickly find themselves entangled in more trouble than just their estranged engagement.

As always, Sara Brodt nailed the narration. She is one of my favorite narrators, and for good reason. Each book she voices comes to life in such a unique and captivating way. I love listening to her read me stories.

Started this one a while ago and just finished tonight. 2nd chance romance, ancient gods, a bit of miscommunication but it leads to some significant romance later. Heated ruvalries, corruption from within, rulers, family dynamics, and narrations by @narrator.sarab that are beautifully done with all of the grit and growl that you want from a god that wields a trident.

2nd chance, lots of heat, definitely worth the listen

The Gods Only Know is book two in Rory L. Scott’s Tempt the Gods series. It continues the modern myth-inspired romance saga with the story of Lukas (the Poseidon parallel) and Daphne (Athena).

Book one (For the Love of the Gods) was playful, chaotic, and chemistry-driven, this sequel slows down and digs deeper. It’s less about external conflict and more about emotional healing, regrets, and growth.

And yes—there’s angst. So much beautiful, angst. Seriously, this might have been the slowest burn I've ever endured in the absolute best way.

I loved how the world opened up more in this book and seeing the politics of the gods take shape. Plus, the overarching conflict gets a bunch more attention, which I'm here for!

While I loved the characters, I enjoyed this one a little less because it relied heavily on the miscommunication trope that is not my favorite. However, the best thing about series like this is how every couple/book is different, and I'm sure the next one will be a five-star for me!

I was able to listen to the audiobook and LOVED Sara Brodt narration. She always gives the characters the right emphasis and makes me enjoy the book even more! Such a fun series!

Loved it!
