A damsel in distress. A dangerous dame. A metric ton of coffee.

Private investigator Frank Harken’s worldwide fame has only made him more cynical. And living in a giant mall covering the entire USA only serves to drive him nuts on a daily basis. So, when a femme fatale barges in asking Harken to track down her sister, he knows when he’s heard an offer too good to be true.

Puzzled by the sudden arrival of Arjay, a sentient coffee-making robot he never ordered, Frank shrugs and rolls with the caffeinated punches. But as the intrepid duo dig deeper into the missing dame’s disappearance, they uncover a deadly plot that could take down the best part of a society gone bananas.

Can the world-weary PI and his barista-bot foil the dastardly scheme to rob Americans of their entertainment?

The Great American Deception is a sci-fi comedy satire. If you like quirky characters, cultural mashups, and original wordplay, then you’ll love Scott Stein’s futuristic send-up. Buy The Great American Deception to brew up a laugh-out-loud mystery today!

This is a very funny book, if you're a hard luck hank or mel brooks fan i promise you'll really enjoy it. I give brutally honest reviews, so people don't have to buy a 5 star book, hate it and never finish it. anyhow this is great writing and the story moves along well to keep you interested, really looking forward to the next books and hearing Frank and Rj's relationship develop. To Tj, your performance was really good, which with the talent narrating audiobooks lately is really a compliment, but what grated on me was the voice you chose for Nutella, She is a strong, smart, matter-of-fact character and you gave her a valley girl voice. it didn't seem like you spent enough effort to capture the essence of the roles you were performing (Nutella), but your voice talent is there.....

clever writing and funny

This is not a fast paced story, but more like a film noir. Cursing a long at a pace that will make it easy to follow. Seemed to have a lot of cultural references that are fun to think about. TJ Clark does and excellent job of bringing all the players to life.
I promise you will never again look at your coffee maker in the same way.

A great story that will keep your interest.

Narrator was excellent. Loved the characters. The author went on many tangents as they described the world of the Great American mall in the future where the support takes place. For example, discussions on the prevalence of mini golf inside the mall or the pun laden locations.

loved RJ

I was laughing pretty much the whole way through, and when I wasn't laughing I was wondering what was going to happen next.
As for the narrator, the different characters voices were well done.

Hilariously fantastic.

This was such a fun listen!
The entire story is told from the point of view of Arjay, a sentient coffee-making robot.
I’d say about 60% of the book is the actual story and plot, the other part is Arjay telling you about.. well, everything he thinks is worth mentioning.
It’s a very fun way to discover this absurd world where the entirety of America is one big mall called 'The Great American'.

I loved Arjay and our other Main Character Frank Harken.
I really liked how Frank adds some seriousness and credibility to the story and Arjay takes care of explaining stuff and making you smile the entire book through!
Apart from this being a very funny book, it’s also a great Mystery/ Detective story. I loved the ending!

The narration was excellently done by TJ Clark. I really felt like he liked the story and enjoyed the performance.
I especially liked his upbeat smarty voice for Arjay.

(Quote from the book) Arjay describing Frank Harken :
“By now you might be wandering just how handsom our hero Frank Harken was.
That’s only natural, I’ll do my best to help you see him.
Imagine the most handsome man possible, and then imagine a more handsome man.
If you can’t do it, I have little hope of adequately describing Frank Harken, because he was twice as handsome as that more handsome man you can’t imagine.”
