The tale of the wealthy Jay Gatsby and his passion for the gorgeous Daisy Buchanan portrays the decadent lifestyle of the newly rich on Long Island during a time of sudden prosperity, when Prohibition made the black market trade in alcohol a lucrative pursuit.
