It has been decided at a conference in Davos, Switzerland, within a project called The Forever Young Society, that old people are not only of no use to the forthcoming technocratic society, but that they are also in fact a serious liability thereto. The sudden appearance of a mysterious virus greatly aids some very powerful individuals when it comes to ridding the world of all elderly people from the ranks of "lesser mortals". Paddy Grogan, a seventy-year-old Irish farmer, partially retired, did not get the memo from The Forever Young Society. When the Irish government introduces a lockdown for its elderly population, the lockdown going under the euphemism of "cocooning", Grogan finds himself no longer able to venture out to this own field down the road to check on his cattle. With time now to kill in his home, Grogan starts joining dots. Grogan's daughter Debbie tends to his cattle and calls in on him every day with dinner and provisions. Slowly but surely she is starting to worry about her father's mental health. Indeed, she wonders if her father has finally lost his marbles, or whether he is making more sense than he ever did before. Dystopian Literature & Fiction Satire Science Fiction
