The odious Jeanette Sobriquet is dead and her granddaughter, Fizzy, is too relieved to grieve. Unfortunately for her, when Fizzy announces her refusal to attend the abusive woman’s funeral, her life becomes a living nightmare. Gritty and Unique

Curley pulls no punches. I like that there are no perfect characters. Despite the presence of the supernatural, everyone feels really human in the worst way possible, but that's the point. This is a gritty story that deals with real human issues wrapped in a thin layer of magic. I think I'd have enjoyed a physical book more, but that's not on the writing at all. This is an absolute palette cleanser in the opposite way it's normally used. If you've been reading a lot of airy, happy books, this one will ground you. It's a breath of fresh air and the epitome of quality dark literature.
