The audiobook version of the thrilling and innovative narrative podcast, including an exclusive storyline.

Gold Medal Winner at the New York Festivals Radio Awards for Best Ensemble Audiobook.

On a dark and stormy night …

Two ghost-hunting journalists arrive at the most haunted house in Britain – the Hollow Hotel. They’re here to interview the Dark King of television magic, Romeo Gideon.

Instead, they discover the body of a murdered man hanging from the rafters – the work of a killer who wields actual magic as viciously as he does his blade. With the storm closing in, all exit routes cut off, and the killer taking them out one by one, their only hope lies with the two mysterious Irish detectives who seem quite at home with all this bloodshed …

Skulduggery Pleasant and Valkyrie Cain have only hours to figure out who the killer is in a hotel filled with the tortured spirits of the dead, the anguished wails of the dying, and the relentless whines of the living.

I found this genuinely enjoyable. The story feels like a return to the series' golden age. Hilarious dialogue. Memorable characters. Murder mystery with some twists. Some good worldbuilding. A satisfying end. Good mixture of action, emotion, horror, drama, and comedy. All great stuff made better by the actors' performances. The post-credits story is also absolutely hilarious and unexpected.

This starts off strong but around the 13:55 mark, in the middle of a scene with several characters speaking, the end credits suddenly begin while the story performance continues. It’s nearly impossible to make out anything of either audio track other than “This has been a production of -“ and so I returned the book. It seems like the audio publishers weren’t paying attention when they combined the episodes of the podcast into a single audiobook.

Loud Credits with Music Overtop of the Performance
