Buyer Beware...

I received a copy of the audiobook from Fright Night Audio in exchange for an honest review.

Jennifer Osborn has been on my radar for quite some time, so I was excited to see some of her work in audio format. I haven’t heard Sean Walpole narrate anything before, but he did an amazing job with The Haunting of Luke Schumer. I am definitely looking forward to hearing more from both of them.

The Haunting of Luke Schumer is about a quiet groundskeeper who purchases an odd item at an estate sale happening in his quaint little town. Little does he know that his life is about to be turned upside down. Buyer beware…

Luke Schumer’s story is vividly beautiful, grotesque, and will leave you slack-jawed throughout. I cannot tell you how many times I whispered “WTF” and “oh no” as I went on this nightmare-fueled ride. I had to rewind at one point to make sure I had heard something correctly, only to find I had less than 10 minutes left in the book. Osborn does a fantastic job showcasing Luke’s troubles from several POVs throughout the story, which pulls everything together beautifully. I’ve always found possession stories scary, but Luke Schumer’s situation is something new and especially creepy.

If you want to read something that will sit with you for days, then give The Haunting of Luke Schumer a try. I bet you won’t be disappointed and will probably make you think twice about buying that random item you saw at ( your choice of creepy establishment).

This is a great possession novel. Cursed objects at estate sales are always a great opening to haunting horror. This is well written. Fantastically narrated. Creepy and gory. Definitely recommend.

Couldn’t finish…

The premise sounds interesting, and it came recommended from a scary book connoisseur. But the narration was really really …really bland to listen to. No characterization - no story telling - everyone’s the same tone. Maybe I’ll try reading, but unfortunately I don’t recommend listening.
