A brutally honest rock memoir, The Heroin Diaries chronicles Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx’s descent into heroin addiction and his harrowing fight for recovery at the height of fame.

When Mötley Crüe was at the height of its fame, there wasn’t any drug Nikki Sixx wouldn’t do. He spent days—sometimes alone, sometimes with other addicts, friends, and lovers—in a coke- and heroin-fueled daze.

The highs were high, and Nikki’s journal entries reveal some euphoria and joy. But the lows were lower, often ending with Nikki in his closet, surrounded by drug paraphernalia and wrapped in paranoid delusions.

Here, Nikki shares the diary entries—some poetic, some scatterbrained, some bizarre—of those dark times. Joining him are Tommy Lee, Vince Neil, Mick Mars, Slash, Rick Nielsen, Bob Rock, and a host of ex-managers, ex-lovers, and more.

Brutally honest, utterly riveting, and surprisingly moving, The Heroin Diaries follows Nikki during the year he plunged to rock bottom—and his courageous decision to pick himself up and start living again.

I really dislike reading but I love Nikki Sixx. My brother brought me the book and said "trust me and read it!" I was in my mid 30's and hadn't read a book since high school. I couldn't put the book down and finished it in less than a week.
Who would have known Nikki was going through this? I didn't and I also didn't think anybody could survive with such a crazy lifestyle.
I was estacted when I heard about the 10th anniversary edition and since we have bitchen apps that can read to us now...even better, Nikki can read to me! I might even listen to it again.

1st edition- a well read, 2nd- a awesome audible!

I bought and read this book when it first came out and loved it. I loved it because it was raw, venerable... and Im a fan! This version gives more insight... really tells how he faced his inner demons and learned to not only overcome addiction but love/understand himself in a new light! I'm so proud of him and how much he has helped SO many people! He lived a CRAZY life filled with disappointment, loss, abandonment, lies, and addiction... Yet found peace, sobriety, love, and happiness 😊 Nikki is an inspiration... he not only has an amazing creative mind but sees beauty beyond physical appearance and has a kind soul.... I will forever be a fan... TY Nikki for sharing your journey with the world that is so honorable xoxo

It is truly a miracle that Nikki Sixx lived to tell this story. If it were me, I would have been dead long ago. The only reason I didn’t give the audio book 5 stars for performance is because of the female narrator. She was absolutely terrible and at one point even tried and failed miserably at using a foreign accent (I think it was supposed to be Scottish?) Nikki is a great narrator though and it was really special hearing him tell his own story.

Can’t believe Nikki Sixx lived to tell this tale!
