They thought the intruders were the worst of their problems. They were wrong.

When Leo and Maya move their young daughter, Chloe, into the old house on Hemlock Lane, they hope it’s a fresh start. But the house has other plans. The first night brings more than creaking floorboards and cold spots—it brings two violent men with a crowbar, forcing the family to hide in a pitch-black closet.

But they are not the only predators in the house.

A presence stirs in the walls. A child’s laughter echoes where no child should be. A pale hand reaches from the darkness. As the intruders become the prey, Leo and Maya fight to escape a home that is very much alive, and very, very hungry.

They manage to flee, but their escape is an illusion. A strange, ticking mark has appeared on Chloe’s forehead, a sinister brand connecting her to the house. When doctors can find no cure and her condition worsens, they face an impossible choice: watch their daughter be consumed, or return to the very heart of the horror to take back what it stole.
