I really enjoyed listening to this memoir within a memoir. The small moments — like the daily candy shop trip for a penny — stayed with me the most. It even made me think about pulling out my own grandmother’s memoir, which has been sitting in a drawer for years; she’d be thrilled if I ever published it. Fantastic Memoir

I very much enjoyed learning more about the great depression through the eyes of Shirley, who lived through the experience. What an interesting time period to be alive. I think it did a really great job of mixing both real-life events with personal experiences through those events. The memoir really made me stop to appreciate the life I have now but appreciate the generations that forged the path for us today even more. Heartfelt and amazing!
