Griffin is a scientist who theorizes that if a person's refractive index is changed to exactly that of air, and his body does not absorb or reflect light, then he will be invisible. He successfully carries out this procedure on himself, but cannot become visible again, becoming mentally unstable as a result.Public Domain (P)2009 Audio Holdings, LLC Science Fiction Fantasy Classics

Editorial reviews

The works of H. G. Wells lend themselves perfectly to audio, the pacing, cinematic description, and escalating drama making for a gripping experience. Here his classic work of sci-fi is performed by stage and screen actor Gerald Harper. Harper excels as Griffin, the egomaniacal doctor who, as his own test subject, proves his theories correct and makes himself invisible but is unable to reverse the process. Harper begins the audiobook with an even-keeled and mild-mannered delivery, his clear diction flourishing, but as the plot progresses the pacing speeds, and he becomes more manic as Griffin loses touch with reality. This is a treat for fans of the classic tale or anyone looking for a work that remains as thrilling today as when it was written at the end of the 19th century.
