During the disastrous Allied retreat north following the fall of Warsaw, a small group of American infantry from the 10th Mountain Division are cut off from the rest of their company while fighting a desperate rear-guard action.

Abandoned and surrounded by Russians, Lieutenant Simon McLane and a handful of soldiers are aided in their escape by a Troop of British Challenger 2 tanks from the Royal Tank Regiment. The tankers and infantrymen forge an unlikely alliance as they fight their way toward Gdansk. Against overwhelming odds, and against a relentless enemy, death and danger shadow their every step.

In a war that can’t be won, merely surviving is a triumph.

Action nonstop from start to finish. Felt like a modern version of Dunkirk. Well written. Well researched. Very well read.

Great Listen. Wonderful Narration. Tons of action.

Good military fiction series. Entertaining and keeps one’s attention. However, this series could also be characterized as fantasy fiction b/c it consistently portrays the Russian military as motivated, well trained, well armed and well led. Portraying the Russian army as competent is more fiction than Lord of the Rings.

Entertaining book. Well performed.

We’re was the Air Force’s ? Very little mention throughout the book. I find it hard to believe the Russian army had nothing but T90 s and so well lead. I did enjoy the characters.

A good book
