The universe is winding down, and it’s accumulating in the corners of Dr. Lev Volkov’s bungalow.

Lev Volkov is a "soft matter" physicist who is losing his grip on reality. After being told his research is "incremental," he is fired from his university position and retreats into a obsessive home renovation. But while trying to hang oak trim, he discovers a terrifying error in arithmetic: a wall that is 4.09 meters long on the inside, but only 4.00 meters on the outside.

What starts as a localized geometry error soon reveals itself as a "Nodal Knot", a stable, engineered topological defect in the fabric of space-time. Joined by his dying mentor, the legendary Professor Nikolai Sokolov, and a brilliant high-frequency arbitrageur, Kasia Zelenka, Lev turns his home into a makeshift laboratory to listen to the "squeezed light" vibrating within the anomaly.

They find themselves communicating with the Anchors, the "Gardeners of the Void" who have spent eons observing civilizations fall victim to the "Great Filter", the moment a species becomes so obsessed with its own digital mirrors that it stops hearing the universe.

As the government descends and humanity’s greatest scientific breakthroughs are crowd-sourced through a global mesh network, Lev must decide if he is a prophet of a new age or a disease vector for a linearity the gods fear.

The Lacuna Project is a hard sci-fi thriller that explores the "pathos of things," the beauty of mortality, and what happens when the long silence of the universe is finally filled, not by a single voice, but by a billion whispered conversations.
