Prince Gaborn, the Earth King, has defeated the forces arrayed against him each time before: the magical and human forces marshaled by Raj Ahten, who seeks immortality at any cost and has given up his humanity in trade; and the inhuman, innumerable, insectile hordes of the giant Reavers from under the Earth, whose unknowable motives are inimical to human life.

Now there must be final confrontations, both on the field of battle, with the supernatural creature that Raj Ahten has become, and underground, in the cavernous homeland of the Reavers, where the sorcerous One True Master who rules them all lies in wait—in the Lair of Bones. The survival of the human race on Earth is at stake.

Critic reviews

“The Runelords Saga comes to a gripping conclusion in David Farland’s The Lair of Bones…Farland’s imaginative use of magic and detailed world-building contribute to the impact…. Gaborn is a flawed but likable hero whom readers will be sorry to leave behind. Fans of Robert Jordan and Terry Goodkind will enjoy Farland’s Runelords.”(Romantic Times)

“David Farland’s Runelords books are among the best fantasies on the market today. Great characters, a fascinating concept, and some really nasty monsters make each novel a pleasure to read.” (Kevin J. Anderson, New York Times best-selling author of A Forest of Stars)

"The suspense is real, the action is nonstop, and the characterizations continue to convince...[this is] a series that has put Farland on high-fantasy readers' maps." (Booklist)

The author's fascination with torture is astounding. Throughout the whole series, one guy is tortured over and over and over again, like the author is cycling tropes that are most likely to make men uncomfortable, and then rinsing and repeating.

The first book is difficult to get through but does set the stage well for these next few books. Very well written. I’m so glad in real life God didn’t make creatures have the brains and abilities like these Reavers in the book!

Great conclusion!

As cheesy as the title of my review is... This book reminds me of the powers I wished for as a child, and still do today 3 decades plus later... It feeds many fantasies and hopes of a world that I still long for and most of us yearn for... of peace .. treating our earth and every inhabitant upon it with the love and respect that we all strive to gain for ourselves and anyone in our immediate circle... I know deep down there is love and the want to be good in everyone of us... Humans by fault have certain shortcomings... Our fears and idle wants and wishes can cloud our higher and better judgments... I hope at the end of this series I am, at least, left with the elated, hopeful, & fantastical feelings that book 4 provided.

it speaks to all who wish only best

This book wraps up the series perfectly. All the fast paced action that you would expect from the first three books, plus an epic ending. I can't wait for the 4 books in the second series to become available on audible.

Great ending to a great series

I had loved the series and the story that was happening, but I had a hard time and even stopped and put the audiobook down after the second book because of the incredibly slooooow pace the author moved the story along. I felt barely any story would happen and all the words were being used to overly describe something that was overall irrelevant and unimportant. Finally in this book we get action that happens regularly and the book progresses normally. I wish all three books were more like this one.

Finally a book that moves at a decent pace.
