Defense attorney Ellie Vance takes the case of Daniel Sterling, accused of murdering Councilman Thorne. She soon discovers Sterling is guilty, but was coerced. This act triggers a mistrial for Sterling and launches federal investigations into Finchley and OmniCorp. Sterling faces new charges related to the fraud and cooperates. Ellie, after assisting prosecutors, avoids prison but loses her law license. The conspiracy is exposed, but at great personal cost to Ellie, highlighting the dangerous and complex fight for truth against powerful forces.
