Alfred Coppel served as a fighter pilot in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II. After his discharge, he started his career as a writer. He became one of the most prolific pulp authors of the 1950s and 1960s, using pseudonyms that included Robert Cham Gilman and A.C. Marin. He wrote for variety many pulp magazines and later "slick" publishers. Although he wrote in many genres, he is most remembered for his many excellent science fiction stories, including this one.

This story was first published in Planet Stories in 1950. In it two rival superpowers threaten to destroy all life in the Universe with their insane lust for power and only one man...and one woman...can stop them.
