Speaking much of suffering and future glory, Peter alludes to numerous biblical doctrines as he moves swiftly along to implore the reader’s commitment to various spiritual sacrifices. But some of these spiritual sacrifices have a decidedly politically incorrect nature, so that they do not rest well with our modern, “progressive” culture. No doubt many preachers conveniently avoid an exhaustive look at this letter for this reason. But Peter offers no apologies for these seemingly insensitive commands; rather, he provides terse theological arguments as to why these spiritual sacrifices are the believer’s important duty.
