The Little Red Hen works hard - all alone - to turn her wheat seed into flour, while the goose gossips, the dog naps, and the cat preens. But when her lazy friends smell the fresh bread baking, they're eager to help her eat it! In this rendition, even the youngest listeners will enjoy the classic folktale about hard work and its tasty reward.©1985 Scholastic Inc. (P)2007 Scholastic Inc. Editorial reviews

This sprightly version of the timeless folktale, most likely of Russian origin, teaches children invaluable lessons regarding hard work, cooperation, and mutual respect in its vivid and entertaining depiction of the slothful cat, goose, and dog, who stand idly by as the diligent hen plants, harvests, and mills wheat to bake a delicious loaf of bread.

Kathleen McInerney's vivacious and energetic performance and soothing maternal tone will captivate young listeners, as will the buoyant musical score and amusing, perfectly placed sound effects.

I Love the Story’s Message, the way it is presented & narrated. It is simple yet effective for children. The background music aids in the adventure of the message. I highly recommend pairing the audiobook with the physical book!!

I enjoyed listening to the narrator and story is quite nice it has a good lesson to learn for children and adults alike. However I am partial to the end of the story where the little red hen feeds the bread to her little chicks, because the story shows that she is sharing with those that can't do for themselves.

very nice

What would have made The Little Red Hen better?

I purchased this thinking that as my child listened to the story, it would show the different pages of the book. Instead, you just see the first picture and it stays there as the entire story is read. Pretty disappointed I wasted my money....I would rather buy the actual book and read it to my child myself so that they can enjoy listening to it while looking at all the different pictures.

Does not show pictures! Don't waste money!
