Deep in the stagnant waters of Bishop’s Creek, a legend is waking up.

It begins with a sound—a heavy, wet impact on the roof of a car—and three parallel gouges torn deep into metal. For Frank Henderson, it was a lucky escape. For the rest of the town, it is the beginning of a nightmare.

As the oppressive heat of the South Carolina summer settles in, a series of impossible incidents leaves the local authorities baffled. Disappearing livestock, mangled vehicles, and a group of teenagers missing in the impenetrable "Dead Zone" point toward something that shouldn't exist.

Sheriff’s deputy Eva Rostova is a woman of facts and procedure, but the evidence in the mud defies every law of nature she knows. Joined by a clinical biologist and a tech-obsessed investigator, she must venture into the Blackwater Maze—a place where the cicadas go silent and the air smells of ancient, musky decay.

They are looking for answers, but the apex predator of the Lowcountry is looking for territory. In a realm where technology fails and the shadows move with a fluid, loping gait, the line between hunter and prey is about to be erased.

Atmospheric, visceral, and relentlessly tense, this novella breathes terrifying new life into one of America’s most famous urban legends.

A good fictional version of what happened at the “Lizard Man” incident. That incident is one of the best documented cryptid events ( so far ) because when local law enforcement was brought in they took a very professional “by the book” direction. Every thing - every detail - and every interview with neighbors and friends and family is all in transcripts. The weather conditions are noted. The high tide / low tide, the seasonal temperature and humidity in the swamp are all noted. Of course, the completed file didn’t knock down the doors of public perception. It’s hardly grotesque enough to make the world news, let alone the local news. Be that as it may, it’s a breath of freash air seeing how these highly strange events should be taken more seriously by those in law enforcement, especially those governing state and national public safety.

A horrifying tale based on TRUE events!
