Jodi Thomas’ lush prose and compelling characters set her apart as a writer of immense appeal. The Lone Texan features Sage McMurray, a recent widow whose life is about to take another unexpected turn. One would think that the loss of a husband was plenty for anyone to deal with, but then Sage is taken hostage in a robbery and auctioned off to the highest bidder. The bidder in question, however, has more than a few surprises in store.

Sage and Forum's story is without a doubt the very best of the entire series. Really good narration and store of true long lasting love.

Great book.!! Just the best of the series without

Where does The Lone Texan rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I like the series. Hard to find historical westerns.

Have you listened to any of Linda Stevens’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I like her fine. She's not Anna Fields, but then, who is?

Not a strong narrator, but more than passable

I love a steamy, romantic historical western and they are difficult to find. In this novel Drum and Sage don't just have sex but instead make passionate love. Furthermore, Drum was not the knuckle-dragging, reeking of an overabundance of testosterone "alpha" man I read about (and repulsed by) in so many stories these days. He is instead strong enough to be vulnerable; devoted to the woman he loves. In addition, Sage is not TSTL doormat leaving all the "saving" and important decisions to Drum. This tale was perfect for me...

...except the narrator. She was not untalented but her voice was too old for the characters she played. However, I liked the publication so much that I could overlook that her voice was miscast. In conclusion, I look forward to more of this author's works in the future.

Story really good, narrator sounded too old.

The Lone Texan has character development driven by a well crafted plot. The romance level is perfect and not unrealistic. Neither people in 1860 Texas, nor much less today, have time to have sex all day long. When it happens it should be long, slow and well developed. That's how a romance author should write it as well. Jodi Thomas does exactly that. It's not about a constant crashing climax, but a well built campsite with thought toward provisions and the following day. The fire is sustained.

A perfect blend of it all...
