Mario Marcel Salas
Assistant Professor of Political Science (Retired)

Mario Marcel Salas, a political and civil rights leader, has been an advocate for San Antonio's African-American, poor white, and Hispanic community. He has taught classes across the country including Federal Government, Texas Government, International Conflicts, African American Studies, Native Americans of San Antonio, Ancient Tools, Texas Forts, History of the Alamo, and several other courses for the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Professor Salas was able to establish an economic alliance project with Mafaking, South Africa, which was the first economic relationship between San Antonio and an African country. He holds two graduate degrees, one in Education and his second graduate degree in Political Science resulted in a thesis titled, “Patterns of Persistence.” Professor Salas has archived historical material maintained by the Special Collections Department of the University of Texas and at the Atlanta University Center of the Atlanta Robert W. Woodruff Library. He has written several books and he has been married for 27 years to Edwina L. Salas of Chicago.
