The power and significance of the prayer Jesus taught.

Most Christians know the Lord's Prayer by heart. We pray it often, at different times and in different settings. We remember it as the prayer that Jesus taught his disciples. But do we really understand and appreciate the meaning and power of its words, what we ask of God each time we pray it?

When the disciples asked Jesus how to pray, Jesus gave them this prayer. He likely taught it to his followers often, not just one time. He never intended the Lord's Prayer to be a museum piece, framed and placed on a mantel or in a display case. It was Jesus teaching God's people, through his disciples, how to pray.

In The Lord's Prayer: The Meaning and Power of the Prayer Jesus Taught, pastor and bestselling author Adam Hamilton guides us to really know—and really pray—the Lord's Prayer. He explores each of its rich lines and their meaning in the Bible, illuminating what we ask of God and what we ask of ourselves through its words. And he teaches us how to use it as a pattern for our own prayer life.

Good story. The volume level gets loud then soft then loud then soft then…. Very difficult to focus on the content.

It was maybe a year ago I was in church again. We were reciting the lords prayer. I thought this is kind of a stupid prayer. I don’t understand it. Now I realize I just didn’t understand what it meant. This prayer is far from stupid. I just needed to know what its true meaning was

I learned The Lord’s Prayer as a child, but didn’t me the meaning of it all. I gathered bits and pieces of understanding from time to time, but this book REALLY helped me attach significant meaning to these familiar words and phrases. I will forever think of The Lord’s Prayer in a different light now!

Never thought about the prayer like this!

I really loved the way each phrase was connected from Biblical history to contemporary life. The Lord’s Prayer is a constant in a changing world and I can so easily imagine people through generations finding peace in its words. I loved the message. There were parts of the delivery that kept reinforcing the same words and I only appreciated it the first couple times.

Insightful look at the Lord’s Prayer

Much of the book was a blessing with excellent insights using the Lord's prayer as a basis for understanding. Therein lie the positives one can get from this book.
The negative aspect of the book to me is the tendency for the author to try really hard
to put down other Christians that the author has found wanting., both in the past and in the present, as if in some way we could and should all be perfect in order to be real followers of Christ.
It is technically a form of legalism with a heavy judgmental leaning.
I would say it's a mixed bag depending on the reader's orientation and belief system. Overlook the legalistic part of things and we've got it made.

The book is a mixed bag with obvious blessings based on the Lord's prayer, but falls short with most of its other material.
