Some betrayals cut deeper than a blade.

New York, 1777. Jocelyn Sinclair’s life depends on deception. By day, she’s a humble servant in British Major Hector Radcliffe’s household, invisible and overlooked. By night, she risks everything as a spy for the Continental Army, gathering intelligence that could turn the tide of war. When she meets the enigmatic Captain Jared Denning, their forbidden attraction threatens to expose her carefully constructed lies. But Jocelyn discovers too late that the greatest danger doesn’t come from enemy soldiers but from someone she trusted with her life…

Present day. When skeletal remains are discovered beneath an ancient oak tree at her friend’s manor house, archaeologist Quinn Allenby is brought in to help solve the mystery. But the moment she touches a tarnished silver ring buried with the bones, she experiences Jocelyn’s world of espionage and betrayal, and witnesses a tragic fate she is helpless to prevent.

Separated by centuries, both women face impossible choices between duty and desire, safety and truth. But some secrets demand to be heard, no matter the cost…

A gripping story of courage, betrayal, and the dangerous price of justice. Perfect for fans of Diana Gabaldon, Susanna Kearsley, and Barbara Erskine.

Irina Shapiro is on a whole new level of storytelling! Thank you for giving us that needed happy ending! “The Lost” is an excellent story featuring past favorites and a few new characters. If you haven’t read any of Irina Shapiro books before....it’s always best to start from the beginning with the 1st in her echoes of the past series “The Lovers” there are 9 books in all but each could be stand alones. However, if you like the first your going to love them each in order. The Narration by Wendy Wolfson is excellent and you’re going to feel like your watching a movie —well at lest I did.....as always a big fat 5 star...and a request for book 10 in this series.

Thank you! Irina Shapiro! Awesome Job Wendy Wolfson!

If you like historical fiction and forensic pathology with a psychic twist, Irina Shapiro’s series is for you. She creates believable, complex protagonists motivated by personal happiness and despicable antagonists, and including 2-3 plot lines is well organized within different chapters. I’ve learned more history by listening to this series, and I hope the imaginary BBC series actually becomes one. Brava, Irina Shapiro!

What a Fantastic Series!

Throughout this series I have grown to love Quinn and her gift/curse. To have the ability to see the life of one long passed is enchanting until the seer has to witness dreadful, horrid events that happen to the long dead victim. The dual timelines work in all of these books and I love character development. Quinn, Gabe, Jo, Sylvia, Reece, Seth, Brett, etc are all 3 dimensional characters that add depth to the stories. I can’t help wanting more editions from the author, especially since I know a new era of psychics have been born! As always, the narrator is AMAZING!

Enjoyed this book as I have all Irina Shapiro’s books.
The story keeps you engaged and intrigued. The narrator is great but I do wish she would give the characters in different books slightly different inflection in their voices. Detectives all have the same nasally voice. I do recommend this and all the books in the series.
