In this richly detailed narrative, we explore the life of Roxanna, a spirited Bactrian princess whose world collides with that of Alexander, the legendary Macedonian king. Their story unfolds in the palaces of ancient empires, where political intrigue and battles rage, yet the novel's heart remains the intimate bond between these two characters. Roxanna's fierce spirit and Alexander's relentless ambition are masterfully portrayed, revealing the depths of their characters and the complexities of their relationship.
The narrative delves into Roxanna's internal struggle, her constant battle to discern whether her marriage to Alexander is a true love match or a strategic alliance to cement his rule over the volatile Bactrian territories.
As the novel progresses, readers are taken on a journey that navigates the treacherous waters of power, loyalty, and the sacrifices made in the name of love. The author beautifully captures the essence of an era where love had the power to transcend the constraints of politics and war. The narrative weaves historical facts with fiction, creating a tapestry as authentic as captivating.
"Alexander and Roxanna" is more than a love story; it vividly portrays a time when passions ran as deep as the battles that shaped history. It's a compelling read for anyone who delights in exploring the emotional dimensions of historical figures and revels in the timeless power of love to overcome all odds. This novel promises to immerse its readers in a world where love and destiny collide to create a story that resonates through the ages.
They get points for mentioning Hephaistion. So often history negates his job in Alexander's success, or denigrates it due to sexual proclivity.
Sometimes the reader pronounced words incorrectly. On a totally horrible note…I wish that the narrator had been a man. Not for any reason…other than that I just felt like Alexander and his tale were not really….okay no the woman did a fantastic job. Just felt like a man voice may have been better. Sorry. Nothing against her…just…This is historical fiction, and quite loosely that.
Overall a great listen, Although a bit stilted, and not exactly historically accurate… check it out. What Alexander accomplished, whether you agree or not, was remarkable.
