Kate and Michael, 20-something housemates working at the same Trader Joe’s supermarket, are thoroughly screwed when people start turning into zombies at their house party in the Oakland hills. The zombie plague is a sexually transmitted disease, turning its victims into shambling, horny, voracious killers.

Thrust into extremes by the unfolding tragedy, Kate and Michael are forced to confront the decisions they’ve made, and their fears of commitment, while trying to stay alive. Michael convinces Kate to meet him in the one place in the Bay Area that’s likely to be safe and secure from the zombie hordes: Alcatraz. But can they stay human long enough?

Critic reviews

"In The Loving Dead, Amelia Beamer gives us a zombie novel like none other. Crisp, smooth and stylish, it zips along from scene to scene, accumulating tension, humor, and insight as it accelerates. It is also comic and sexy, a combination I find irresistible.” (Peter Straub)

I thought this was going to be a novel "twist" on the zombie genre. The Loving Dead is basically a women's adult novel with the backdrop of the zombie apocolypse. The book is constantly referring to sex and the zombies are a very small part of the story. A waste of a credit.

This is not a zombie novel

The book had an interesting concept, I will give it that. But if you are a male born after 1995 this is probably not for you. The male characters in the book, almost every single one...... except for the child, are made out to be worthless stupid pieces of crap. And all of the characters are just a bunch of cry babies. Definitely the California, millennial mentality. I am not sure how this ranked #2 on the Barnes & Noble best zombie reads. Sorry if I offended anybody this is just my opinion.

Well that's 10 hours I'll never get back
