The Lurking Fear

The lurking fear dwelt in the shunned and deserted Martense mansion, which crowned the high but gradual eminence whose liability to frequent thunderstorms gave it the name of Tempest Mountain.

For over a hundred years the antique, grove-circled stone house had been the subject of stories incredibly wild and monstrously hideous; stories of a silent colossal creeping death which stalked abroad in summer.

It seemed the stories might have been true when myself and a horde of reporters descended on the Catskills to follow up a rumour that an entire village had sunk into the earth.

Masterpiece of Supernatural Horror

Impressive sample of horror from a simpler time when the courageous had to leave the couch to find Horror, rather than able to find it with two clicks of the mouse.

Lovecraft does a great job of creating the atmosphere of impending dread that still works after all these years.

Hearing it narrated on Audible by Herriot amplifies the sense of terror.

10/10 loving the mythos so far
