This is the incredible story of Canada's largest manhunt. Hundreds of men spent seven weeks tracking the elusive Albert Johnson for 240 kilometers across the frozen North. He was eventually caught and killed, but the identity of Albert Johnson, the Mad Trapper of Rat River, remains a mystery to this day.

"His lips were curled back in an ugly sneer; and his teeth looked like fangs sticking out through his beard. Johnson hadn't found the peace in death that had eluded him in the last weeks of his life."

This is an incredible and true story. I’ve read numerous articles and several books about the “mad trapper of Rat River.” This is a compact and fast moving narrative that is quite simply superb!

Utterly Fascinating!

This was an incredible true story. Helena Katz has woven a formidable, almost super-human antagonist with the Yukon outdoors, unbelievably harsh weather conditions, dedicated and determined Mounties, and a courageous bush pilot, that is worthy of a tale by Jack London. As a backpacker, I can only imagine carrying almost your full weight through deep snow in sub-zero blizzard conditions. As a former pilot with flights to Alaska and Greenland (in modern aircraft, of course), I can appreciate “Wop” May’s selfless derring-do to save lives and help catch the murderer. I have new respect for what it takes to be a Mounty. Charles Huddleston narrates superbly. I had to listen all over again after the first time.

So good I listened to it twice

Love it, brilliant narration! Great little part of true crime history that is quickly fading with time. Great detail and with the narration you feel like you are in the story.
