Amaryllis, a five-year-old child who has been abandoned by her wealthy parents to the care of paid staff, runs away. Her plan is to find a home where someone will love her. She meets a lonely older boy who teaches her games, plays his violin for her, and introduces her to the glorious wonders of his garden. His sympathy and kindness bring comfort to her hungry heart.

Their idyllic two days end when Amaryllis is discovered but she never forgets the boy. This is a sentimental tale of growing up, and of love lost and found again.

Sweetness 101

I found this story with this narrator very touching. I have just discovered Gene Stratton-Porter. I have been told that her stories are very descriptive and this novella did not disappoint.

All of it

I loved all of it like all of her novels and the narrator was excellent

Good and clean.

The reader did a good job of reading.
She did an excellent job of demonstrating the pureness of little Amarilla and John. 

Wonderful old fashioned storytelling

Books like this cannot be written today! The sweetness and innocence of the characters could not be portrayed in this modern world.
The old fashioned values would not ring true because of our woke and jaded culture
. It would be a refreshing change if there were an author or two who could pull it off. However until then we must harken back to
The last century and partake of these gems. Narration was very good.
