Hattie Bright arrived in Laramie, Wyoming on a sunny day in May of 1877. She had grown up in an orphanage and now that she was 19 years old, was determined to make her own way through life and despite her beauty wanted to make her own decisions as well. She was a lovely brunette with gorgeous green eyes and the most attractive white smile. Her favorite color was yellow, and she wore it every opportunity she could along with one of her favorite hats.

After stepping out of the stagecoach, she immediately caught the attention of Sam Bishop who owned a prominent ranch in the area. He stopped in his tracks and couldn't seem to take his eyes off the striking beauty along with several other men in the vicinity. Hattie was used to causing a stir wherever she went and carried on with her plans while leaving a trail of onlookers in her wake. She got a job working in the mercantile and heard about the upcoming mail order bride auction. She wanted to get married and it was rumored that several prominent men were in the market for a bride and decided this might be a good opportunity for her to become a mail order bride!

Loved Hattie's Story

The art of being a milliner has certainly gone by the wayside. I enjoyed hearing about that era and thought Hattie was an adorable mail order bride. She had spunk and determination which I'm sure was needed in the 1877s.
