Before the first light of dawn on the morning of June twenty-second, 1941 Oskar Scheja stood on the western shore of the Bug River, looking to the east. The Russian army was camped on the other side. When the signal came to begin Operation Barbarossa he and his comrades from the German Wehrmacht stormed over the River and began an assault that took millions of Germans deep into Russian territory. For some the journey was brief. For others, like Oskar, it would last for years, and the struggle did not end when the fighting was over. This is the story of one German soldier’s experience in combat and captivity. It is the story of bravery, despair, deception, and survival. Military Wars & Conflicts World War II War Russia Solider

Virtual voice narration was much better than expected, and will think on this story for some time.

Loved gritty truth if each page….the real combat and jail and camp stories thank you!!!

Truly was glued to the story. If 1/2 of this occurred… it is surreal and scary.poor Oskar… hopefully he he rested

This is not your normal WWII biography. It doesn’t focus much on combat but on the narrator’s unique and fascinating journey to survive. This is a quick and fun read, and one that you will keep listening to in order to see how it ends. Would make a fascinating movie, and one of the more unique biographies I have read.

It is also gives an interesting insight into the Soviet system, and how things worked

Unique Adventure
