The more May learns, the more she’s forced to question the motives of everyone around her, including Abby and Faith, and as more women turn up dead, May must reevaluate the future she wants, and which lies she’s willing to tell, for whom.

This is the third book I have read by Caroline, and all three of them have had incredible character development and deep rooted connection to the past.

Woods brings the era’s fascination with mesmerism and spiritualism to life through Faith, May, and Abby, three women navigating the dangers of Bethany House for unwed mothers. The story powerfully highlights the resilience of women in that era, revealing the courage and resourcefulness they needed to survive in a society that often limited or judged them harshly. Listening to each twist and historical detail made it impossible to pause. For anyone who enjoys historical mysteries with a supernatural touch and inspiring themes of strength and survival, this one is a must-read!
