Losing weight has become the modern woman’s Holy Grail.… Everything will be better when we’re thin. In the 21st century, being thin, even more than being rich or happy, sends a clear message of success to the outside world. No wonder then that disordered eating is on the rise and we’re increasingly unhappy with our bodies.

The Ministry of Thin takes a controversial, unflinching look at how our desire to lose weight is out of control; at the widespread depression that results, the tyranny of celebrity culture and the dangerous extremes - including drip-diets and cosmetic surgery - to which we will go to be skinny. From those who would like to be a few pounds lighter to those who starve or binge in secret, we are all affected. How did we get to the point where we hate our own bodies? And is it futile to hope that we might one day be able to like ourselves again, just as we are?

The author voices her own book, which I find so interesting, and she does a great job of carrying the story in her emotions and tone of voice, plus the plot is exactly what I've been wishing for. A deep, unidolatorous look at the crimes we women commit against ourselves as we try, once again, to please our worst critics as we push our favorite foods far from us and get on the treadmill a second time that day. We neglect our dreams and life's purpose to chase a figment, and ideal - and this book shows us WHY we do that, and how culture works to continue this impossible ideal. Thanks Emma, you da bomb. <3

Bought this as a look into why women are so obsessed w weight. As a naturally well built thin woman, I found this offensive. Apparently this person has very unhealthy self esteem. Thin women aren't hungry and deprived. Thin women often have great lives. Hating on Thin women will not resolve your weight issues.

Terrible Thin Hating Book
