Family affairs don't stop cousins Cecelia and Kate from their magical duties in Regency England.

It's been a decade since Kate and Cecelia foiled Napoleon's plot to reclaim the French crown. The cousins now have estates, children, and a place at the height of wizarding society.

It is 1828, and though magic remains at the heart of the British Empire, a new power has begun to make itself felt across England: the steam engine. As iron tracks crisscross the countryside, the shaking of the locomotives begins to disrupt the workings of English magic, threatening the very foundations of the Empire.

A foreign wizard on a diplomatic mission to England vanishes, and the Prime Minister sends Cecelia's husband to investigate. In order to accompany her husband to the North of England, Cecelia leaves her children in Kate's care. As Cecelia and James fight for the future of magic, Kate is left with a no less daunting problem: how to care for a gaggle of disobedient, spell-casting tots.

the story is brilliant in format, charming in style, and so thoroughly researched you forget which century you live in. The performance was inspired. Not a single complaint to offer.

Loved it! Thoroughly Charming!

Lovely story, lovely narration. I don't know how many times I've read this book but it never disappoints.

Always a great read.

I am so glad I can listen to them now. Both authors are phenomenal. It's great getting to hear from James and Thomas as well as Kate and Cece in this 3rd installment.

I love these books!

I was pulled into the story without even having read the first 2 books; didn't see that info when loading up my iPhone. Letter format was fine, but does bloat the word count (multiple first person oral narratives are a little more compact). I do wish the letter writers would get the full scoop before writing rather than sending off letters with "I'll tell you about tomorrow in the next letter."

ley lines - England is lucky to have so many

This book was not nearly as good as the first two. Brining and dull. I do like that Thomas and James were included in the letter writing, but that’s it.

Boring!
