No body. No crime. No time. Can you ever escape your past?

Fresh out of prison, Jess Strickland has just six months’ probation to serve until she's free to get on with the life she left behind four years ago.

With few options available, Jess takes a job at Bright’s, an industrial laundry company, alongside other ex-cons, all eager to keep their noses clean.

Here she finds an ally in Karla, but soon learns her new boss, Terry, is not all he seems.

Realising she’s no safer on the outside, Jess refuses to be a victim any longer.

How far will she go to avoid going back to prison?

…but it won’t be your favorite. Narrator is decent. The ending feels rushed. Trigger warning: sexual assault

Worth a listen…

It’s scary to think how out of control sex trafficking is out of control around the world. And the fact that there are so many ways to make it work. Anyway, the story was intriguing and I wanted to keep listening to the end.

Excellent book

Gemma Rogers delivers a disturbing look at life after prison in her novel Bad Girls. This gritty crime thriller is riveting while also making you feel like the book is alive. The magic inside these pages is palpable.

Throughout the novel, you can’t help but feel for Jess. I spent the first two-thirds of the book trying to solve the mystery. I had my hunches, but when the truth came out, it was stunning.

The setting of the laundry was so real that I could feel the sweat falling off of me. I could taste every cigarette smoked and taste every last bit of alcohol. I was so engrossed in this book that I truly felt as though I were there.

The book did drag a bit in a few places. It was noticeable, but not so bad that it detracted from my pleasure in the book. Though, it could have felt like dragging because I was eager to get to the next bit.

By the end, I was a sobbing mess. The ending was incredibly satisfying, and I am feeling all the feels. I am happy to award Bad Girls 4 out of 5 stars. If you love crime thrillers, you will enjoy this book. It makes the dastardly world around us come to life.
