Booker Prize-winning author Salman Rushdie combines a ferociously witty family saga with a surreally imagined and sometimes blasphemous chronicle of modern India and flavors the mixture with peppery soliloquies on art, ethnicity, religious fanaticism, and the terrifying power of love. Moraes "Moor" Zogoiby, the last surviving scion of a dynasty of Cochinese spice merchants and crime lords, is also a compulsive storyteller and an exile. As he travels a route that takes him from India to Spain, he leaves behind a tale of mad passions and volcanic family hatreds, of titanic matriarchs and their mesmerized offspring, of premature deaths and curses that strike beyond the grave.

Been years since I last heard this on audiocassette tapes. I knew what to expect and yet I sat spellbound waiting for specific segments. It was fresh all over again.

This is an author known for taking risks in recording and putting forth controversial information. I'd follow him anywhere.

As a painter and lover of art and storytelling there is so much in this rich text to enjoy. The performance was also very good. I’m sure I’ll listen to it again sometime as I do most of Rushdie’s works .

Powerful , beautiful and surreal

The narrator's rendition of Indian-English idioms spoken by the main characters is hilarious. Whole novel is a huge satire about "multicultural" India.

Hilarious

I am ashamed to say that this is the first book I listened to by Salman Rushdie and it certainly wouldn’t by the last.
I just never got to it.
It is a very interesting book, with many characters and fascinating stories.
The narrator, mr. Suni Malhotra, makes it all come to life.
I am up to the next book by this amazing author.
My thanks to all involved, JK.

While the story and characters were interesting, I found that Malhotra’s performance really pushed it to the next level.
The book itself is very poetic and lyrical.

Sunil Malhotra is worth listening to
