When David Collier returns home from combat in Vietnam, he discovers that he’s been cursed with the uncanny ability to invade other people’s nightmares. Even worse, the curse of Morpheus (the Greek god of dreams) empowers its victims to kill others after sneaking into their dreams.

Enraged that his fiancée has ended their engagement, Collier decides to use the gift of somnambulistic telepathy to avenge himself against the youthful Laura Resnick, who let him down. To stop him, pioneering sleep researcher Alix Cassidy must also find a way to shut down the corrupt VA psychiatrist who’s been treating Collier and allowing him to kill, while both murderer and victim dream. The suspense mounts when Cassidy falls in love with the immoral shrink.

Caught in a web of treachery, Alix faces the ultimate challenge: Can she uncover the truth about her lover and stop the killer before it’s too late?

Volk tells an intriguing and thrilling story in The Morpheus Conspiracy. Volk allows his readers to enter into an exciting world, filled with darkness and thrills. I did read the story, and enjoyed it, but I also really enjoyed this audiobook. It's a very raw and dramatic listen, bringing the ambiance of the written word to narration, no, more like a grand storyteller. and it brings the listener into the directed dreaming, and the impact of such telepathy. Volk writes very well, and brings this story into a frightening and terrifying reality. The storytelling acts in kind. It's the kind of story you have to walk away from, even if just to catch your breath before reading it again. It is a page-turner and one that you think about even when you put it down. This narrator brings another level of this story to life. The Morpheus Conspiracy on audiobook is a definite listening recommendation by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews. I look forward to listening to many more stories by this author.
