“Claire Douglas is a class act—she never, ever disappoints.” Lisa Jewell, New York Times bestselling author of Breaking the Dark and None of This Is True Unassuming neighbors may not be what they seem in this twisty, spine-tingling thriller from the internationally bestselling author of The Couple at Number 9 and The Girls Who Disappeared.

They seem like the perfect couple. But what are they hiding?

When Lena overhears a conversation between her next-door-neighbors she thinks she must have misheard.

The Morgans are a kind, retired couple who recently moved to their sleepy suburban street in Bristol where nothing ever happens. But to Lena it sounded very much like they were planning a crime.

Her family and friends tell her she must be mistaken. Yet Lena can’t stop thinking about that strange conversation. What if they really are about to do something terrible?

What if she can prevent it?

Especially when doing something might help ease her conscience about her own dark past . . . Don’t miss these other psychological thrillers from Claire Douglas

This is terrible. It makes no sense. The plot is all over the place, implausible and just dumb. Skip this one.

I don’t remember when I was so disappointed with a book like this time. I really like Claire Douglas but this one is so shallow, predictable, without structure and at some points even without any sense. A waste of credit and a waste of time.

A huge disappointment

If I didn’t know better I would swear that there is no way Claire Douglas wrote this.

I’ve read all of her books and have been a HUGE fan of her work for more than a decade.

It started with Local Girl Missing and I was hooked. She is insanely talented, next level status. This is true for all of her other books, they are exceptionally well crafted, thought out, developed and atmospheric.

This book is a mess from the very start.
The protagonist has no depth, in fact none of the characters can be “felt” because they are all 2 dimensional. The story zig zags all over the place and it’s not cohesive at all-there is no thread to follow-just a whole lot of choppy segments.

I’m sorry because I love, love, love Claire Douglas.

But this book is horrible. It doesn’t even feel like her writing at all.

It was so disappointing it made me quite sad.
If this is the direction things are going then I’ve just lost one of my favorite authors in the world.

I really hope she can get back to the source of what makes her writing so unique and captivating (books like LGM, The Wrong Sister, The Couple In #9, The Girls Who Disappeared, and so on-all incredible stories) please come back to us Claire Douglas!

Do not waste a credit here-try any of her other books instead. Particularly the titles listed above.

The narration was great. Other than that it’s a hard no.

Awful
