A cautionary tale about the consequences of environmental pollution.

They are part of our daily lives. We watch them from our kitchen windows and backyard decks as they scurry over the branches of our tall oak trees. We laugh at their antics as they furiously bury and unbury their precious acorns. Yes, they are part of our lives and, though, sometimes a nuisance, we generally enjoy and tolerate them.

But what happens when something goes wrong?

What happens if some outside force causes their DNA to explode, creating a whole new species? What happens when that species begins to distrust and fear humans?

Brooke Davis, her daughter, Tessa, and their intrepid dog, Petey, are about to find out.

The Night of the Sciurus, A Western Michigan Tale of Terror is a story of environmental horror by multi-award-winning and USA Today bestselling author, Linda Watkins.

The Night of the Sciurus is definitely a cautionary tale of what could possibly happen if man does not clean up environmental hazards. The story starts off a little slow, but once it pucks up speed, the reader or listener will be confronted by an aggressive mutation that no one would ever suspect. The storyline is well written and full of suspense. I enjoyed the book, but it really gave me pause to think about the what ifs. The narrator did a good job giving the story life. I received this book for free upon my request. I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased review here of my own volition.

Although the premise is somewhat thin, the narration lifts this story with characters that are believable. The characters are well defined and consistent throughout the listen. I would have loved to have one particular squirrel redeem itself.

Yeah, everybody (mostly) thinks that squirrels are cute little creatures that wouldn't cause anyone harm. This short book will definitely change your outlook on that!

Brooke Davis, her daughter, Tessa, and loyal dog, Petey, move to Laketon, Michigan, for a new start after Brooke's divorce. She soon finds out that all is not OK in this idyllic setting. In fact, the squirrels in the area start to behave downright murderous!

As a person who lives where there are a lot of squirrels, parts of this book are truly horrific! I enjoyed the ingenuity of Brooke as she tries to get to safety and Petey is the absolute hero of this one! Reminiscent of the Fifties creature feature movies, you will never look at squirrels in the same way! The narrator does a great job in moving this fast-paced story to its conclusion.
