For such a famous tale, the plot was really not cohesive. The “climax” of the book seemed to be in the middle of the book, while tons of detail went into describing the Land of Sweets. I found this original version boring but would be open to reading other adaptations or seeing the musical. In spite of these shortcomings, the Nutcracker and his uncle were so fascinating, that I can see why it has endured as a classic. Personally I’m more inclined to hear a telling of the life story of the Drosselmeier duos. Also, while the descriptions of the Land of Sweets did get long winded, the imagination that went into it was charming. Overall I can see why it is a classic but I am more prone to like later retellings.

Great reading, the plot was lackluster

It’s good old nutcracker but I must say that we have other very good adaptations. The original story was not like how I imagined it but still strong story.
The story was not for everyone cause all of it felt like a dream that a child would have.
The audiobook was awesome different voices and well read.

Good old nutcracker story

some of the voices didn't match the characters and the voices talking at once made it hard to hear what they were saying.

the voice of Drosselmyer

I have read this and the retelling by Alexandre Dumas both are very similar (obviously)
. Either one is enjoyable.
