The Odyssey of Amanda Iron Bear is a work of fiction about a real-world crisis and that crisis is the disappearances of indigenous women in both the United States and Canada. The story focuses on Amanda Iron Bear. She is a contemporary 17-year-old Sioux teen who lives on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation on northeastern Montana. She has a series of dreams that warn her about evil people who wish to do her harm. She worries about the dreams in the sense of when it will happen. Eventually she is kidnapped by human traffickers who take her to Texas for the purpose of using her as a prostitute.
