What if one orphaned Latina's truth could shift everything, we think we know about who on earth matters—and why?

A girl the world forgot.

A truth no one saw coming.

A story that might change us all.

The world treated her as necessary collateral damage.

She answered with music—a response of rediscovering humanity.

In a world growing numb to cruelty, the original human beings tell the inspirational story of a girl named Never—a Honduran orphan who escapes living in a Central American city dump and journeys north with a cello on her back. She is fighting to simply stay alive.

She alone could protect her hilarious little brother, Homero. She searched for a hero—but found a dreamy Nez Perce young man, the most athletic person she had ever seen, who helped her realize the hero was staring back at her in the mirror.

It is a romance as scandalous as it is soulful, with no promise of happily ever after—only truth. She found refuge in Loco Lucy, the garbage dumps’ foul-mouthed, delightfully deranged, vampire-dressing matriarch.

She was hunted by General Alejandro Mendoza-El Caudillo—a ruthless crime Lord who misbelieved he was her father and would burn down the world to control her.

And she was stalked by Alonzo Gomez, a seven-foot hitman with a French accent, a loaded pistol, and a soul darker than midnight—until she made him believe in something more dangerous.

It is a high concept saga infused with magical realism.

It echoes with mythic power of new approach to Voltaire's Candide meets Cervantes Don Quixote's man of La Mancha.

This is how we remember what truly matters. This is how we broken walk out of the monster.

The Original Human Beings is both beautifully written and beautifully read—a rare combination that makes the story linger long after you’re done. Timothy White tackles some of the biggest challenges we face today: division, misunderstanding, and the loss of our shared humanity. Yet this book never feels heavy-handed. Instead, it offers a clear and hopeful solution—real connection. The idea that the way forward begins with truly getting to know one another feels both timely and deeply necessary.

One of the joys of this book is the sheer adventure of it all. From Honduras to Washington, the story unfolds like an epic journey, filled with vivid scenes, imaginative history, and unforgettable action. The fight with the bear is wild and gripping, and the epic showdown with the Native American “Chuck Norris” is as intense as it is memorable. These moments add energy and fun, while still serving the deeper themes of the story.

There’s also a refreshing humor woven throughout—especially moments like Gomez cursing in his preaching, which somehow manages to be both irreverent and strangely human. And then there’s the breathtaking vision of the crowd at Carnegie Hall: Edgar Hoover, MLK Jr., JFK, the Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Cesar Chavez, and a whole who’s who of history gathered together. That scene alone captures the book’s ability to blend imagination, history, and meaning in a powerful way.

Ultimately, The Original Human Beings is a hopeful reminder that understanding and transformation don’t start with systems or slogans, but with relationships. It’s an adventurous, thought-provoking, and deeply human story—one that invites us not just to read, but to see one another differently.
