Quinones also takes us through the tuba scenes of New Orleans, Orlando, Knoxville, New York City, and, most importantly, Roma, Texas, a dusty town in the Rio Grande Valley where a visionary high school marching band director fashioned a program that now regularly wins state championships and sends its students off to college.

A wonderful homage to middle and high-school band teachers

While the intricacies of creating a perfect tuba run throughout, the book shows how the gift of having excellent and dedicated band teachers continues long beyond graduation in the lives of the many cubits interviewed.

Fascinating and surprisingly compelling

Initially a little hard to follow in audio form due to jumping between storylines, but I was completely engrossed and listened to this compelled to finish this in 2 days over the holidays. I have told too many friends now about the York tubas, the Strads of the tuba world. Would highly recommend
