Two years have done little to ease veterinarian Audra Hughes' grief over her husband's untimely death. Eager for a fresh start, Audra plans to leave Portland for a new job in Philadelphia. Her seven-year-old son, Jack, seems apprehensive about flying - but it's just the beginning of an anxiety that grows to consume him. As Jack's fears continue to surface in recurring and violent nightmares, Audra hardly recognizes the introverted boy he has become. Desperate, she traces snippets of information unearthed in Jack's dreams, leading her to Sean Malloy, a struggling U.S. Army veteran wounded in Afghanistan. Together they unravel a mystery dating back to World War II, and uncover old family secrets that still have the strength to wound - and perhaps, at last, to heal. Intricate and beautifully written, The Pieces We Keep illuminates those moments when life asks us to reach beyond what we know and embrace what was once unthinkable. Deftly weaving together past and present, herein lies a story that is at once poignant and thought-provoking, and as unpredictable as the human heart.

The story was good but for some reason it did not keep my attention. maybe it was just me.

did not keep my attention

Story did hold my interest but it never makes a clear connections to reincarnation. I found the heroines annoying at times...I was glad to finish this book...

meandering plot line...

This is a wonderful story with lots of turns, twists and surprises. My issue is not with the story but with the way the author has chosen to tell the story.

Jumping back and forth in time has been a popular format in the past few years that I think is quite effective when you are reading a book... but not so endearing when you are listening to one.

Many years ago I was reading The Brothers Karamazov and my godmother (a ferocious reader) suggested that I have a sheet of paper to write all the character names and who they were and who they were related to. It helped a lot because there was a cast of thousands and the sheet helped you remember who they all were!

The issue is MUCH simpler here...but the problem still exists. I love Audible...but in this case, I would have enjoyed the story much more if I had purchased the book.

An interesting story, jumps back and forth between then and now, I found it hard to keep things straight.

It's about life, the ups and downs. And how you have to just roll with it.

Love the story
